Plaza de España - Sevilla

Olé! By the end of your trip you will have downed a couple of bottles of wine, had amazing cheese and the best ham ever. And then with no shame in the world you would be dancing Flamenco like a local.

Your heart will skip a beat with this city. It is a mixture of history, romance, castles and spaniards with the coolest accent.

Experience it the local way, get an AirBnb and stay in one of the little streets that have some the cutest picture perfect balconies. The smells of this town will put you on cloud 9. No need for a car, you can walk or catch an Uber or better yet ride in a horse carriage. We drove in from Lisbon and we left our car in a public garage. It was $40 a night.

Ok… enough chit chat… Where to go?

Plaza de Toros

What a beauty, although you might not be into bullfighting... for Spaniards, it is their culture. The outside itself is surrounded by pillars and designs that make you imagine how the fiestas de toros were enjoyed back in the day.

If you want to get to see the inside, there are tour guides that last one hour in this architectural landmark. Don’t worry if you don’t speak Spanish they have translators that accommodate to your language. Tip: Buy online or go early they sell out quick.

After this, it was time for the horse carriage ride to Plaza de America, I literally gasped for air. It is out of this world… I’m going to use a big word here…. Magnificent! It was built between 1913 and 1916 for the Ibero-American exhibition to receive Presidents and Kings from other nations.

As your horse carriage approaches the water fountain you will feel like Cinderella arriving at your castle. If you have a prince good for you, if you don’t even better! Did a mention there is a lake in the middle of this fairytale palace? Of course it has geese, the white fluffy ones.

Please go visit Plaza de España at sunset, the sun will shine on the pretty tiles and on the walls... It is Sevilla's special color for sure! Remember the Macarena?

Fun Fact: Los del Rio the two singers responsible for you shaking your romp in the 90's are from Seville and they made a song about this city...Sevilla tiene un color especial....

So you will count at least 30 churches by now, all prettier that the other. And then you will encounter The Cathedral of Saint Mary, better known as Seville Cathedral. It was registered in 1987 by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, along with the adjoining Alcázar palace .

The opulence, the beauty, the Oh my God, who built this?

There are about 10 chapels inside the cathedral. You heard that right you can pray to your hearts' content to any saint, Virgen or angel you desire. The walls are hand painted and the floors are colorful tiles that date to the early 16th century, Seville Cathedral supplanted Hagia Sophia as the largest cathedral in the world.

So they have chapels, cripts, paintings, murals and art for days. Then go over to the Alcazar... get ready to be amazed:

The Alcazar is the oldest used palace in all of Europe, you will need at least two hours to fully enjoy its enchantment. Royal Alcazar of Seville was founded in the early Middle-Ages, that is thousand of years ago. Mixed styles of architecture from Royalty that have lived here through out time, make this such a unique and sublime place to visit.

And to end the day.... Do yourself a favor and stop at any of the little restaurants, sit in a table outside to people watch, eat some tapas and drink lots of wine! Salud... Oh, here's another breathtaking pic:

Get some rest and get ready for day two...
